Sheer Terror is an American hardcore punk band from New York City - (formed in 1984). The band was one of the first to combine elements of heavy metal with a hardcore punk. When New York hardcore was young, it was known for its straightedge crews and positive hardcore... then along came Sheer Terror and New York would never be the same. With a spit in your face attitude and apathetic pride, Sheer Terror called out to the masses and built up one of the most loyal followings of any hardcore band.

Le groupe est formé en 1982 à Marseille, dans les Bouches-du-Rhône. En 1983, le groupe sort son 1er single, Adolescent et Les forces de l'ordre, qui s'est davantage vendu à l'étranger qu'en France. En 1986, il sort son premier album, Les Enfants de l'espoir. Le groupe a fêté ses 40 ans et part en tournée aux USA en septembre 2024.
